SWAC link mission support trip

SWAC pastor to visit Melville Union Church in Johannesburg

Posted 13 August 2009

Melville Union ChurchGraham and Jane Crew are taking 6 weeks long service leave in Oct-Nov this year to visit and assist our SWAC Link Missios. During the trip they will visit Melville Union Church (and Thembelethu Ministries) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

  • Melville Union is our "sister church" following a Diocesan Mission there in 2000 (involving Rob & Vicki Brasington) and Parish mission team in 2003.
  • Andrew Robinson trained at Melville in 2007-8.

MUC is an extraordinary work of God working through visionary, sacrificial leadership. It brilliantly
displays the power of God to breakdown human barriers being determinedly multiracial, when most
current south African churches are still not fully integrated. As well as establishing a bible college,
university ministry (FOCUS) and Thembalethu ministry to the homeless, MUC has recently planted a
new church in nearby "working class" Sophiatown.

Their new website is well worth visiting to get the feel for this vibrant work of God that we have the
privilege to partner with - see melvilleunionchurch.org

Many of the members are new Christians from broken and vulnerable backgrounds so the pastoral
load is high. Graham and Jane hope they can provide a small "breather" to lighten the load just a little by helping out where ever they are needed. Gifts for Thembalethu and the Melville trainees are
especially welcomed. These can be given to the Crews directly or through our church collection
(marked M.U.C).

Some of our members and our Arvo Church Sunday school also provide salary assistance for Rev
Canny Sofi who is ministering to a black church and community where unemployment runs at over
80%. The Crews hope to visit and encourage Canny.

The Crews will also have room to take cards and gifts from SWAC members or groups for our missios, for Canny etc. So please get them to the Crews by 16th Sept.

Graham and Jane will be holding a couple of information and prayer meeting for any members who
like to support them and our missios (watch this space).
