By-Laws

Adopted pursuant to Rule 25 of the Rules of Association (Updated July 2025)

These By-Laws are made by the Management Committee for the internal management of the Association and are to be read subject to, and consistently with, the Rules of Association. In the event of inconsistency, the Rules of Association prevail.

1. Definitions

In these By-Laws, unless the context otherwise requires:
• “Association” means Volunteer Marine Rescue Brisbane Inc.
• “Management Committee” has the meaning given in the Rules of Association.
• “Member” means a person admitted to membership under the Rules of Association.

2. Management Committee Positions

The elected positions of the Management Committee shall be those prescribed in Rule 11 of the Rules of Association, namely:
• President
• Vice-President
• Immediate Past President
• Secretary
• Treasurer
• Members’ Representative

3. Sub-Committees

The Management Committee may establish sub-committees in accordance with Rule 16 of the Rules of Association and may delegate such powers and functions as it considers appropriate.

4. Reporting

Any sub-committee, activity group or delegate handling Association funds must provide written financial reports as requested by the Management Committee for inclusion in meeting records.

5. Membership Conduct

Members must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the objects of the Association and must comply with the Rules of Association, these By-Laws and any lawful directions of the Management Committee.

6. Use of Premises and Facilities

(a) The Management Committee may regulate access to and use of Association premises, including parking, storage areas, pontoon access and clubhouse facilities.
(b) The Association accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to members’ property stored or parked on Association premises.

7. Hardstand and Storage

(a) Allocation, fees and conditions for hardstand or storage areas are determined by the Management Committee from time to time.
(b) Failure to comply with payment or safety requirements may result in termination of storage rights.

8. Pontoon Use

Use of the pontoon is limited to loading, unloading and short-term access as authorised by the Management Committee. Time limits and safety requirements apply.

9. Clubhouse and Alcohol

(a) Members and guests must comply with liquor licensing laws and any conditions imposed by the Association’s licence.
(b) Alcohol may only be consumed if purchased through the Association where applicable.

10. Security

Members must ensure all gates, doors and facilities are secured on departure from Association premises.

11. Keys and Access

The Management Committee may issue keys or access devices subject to conditions, deposits and record-keeping requirements as determined from time to time.

12. Discipline

Breaches of these By-Laws may constitute conduct prejudicial to the Association under Rule 8 of the Rules of Association and may result in disciplinary action.

13. Amendment of By-Laws

These By-Laws may be amended or repealed by resolution of the Management Committee in accordance with Rule 25 of the Rules of Association.
